This is called a bed

We haven't had a real bed, with legs and posts and rails, for ten years. We've had a mattress on the floor.

When I returned from the Behold Conference yesterday, my husband had completed this beauty, and set it up for admiration. This is actually the prototype he built in preparation to build our actual bed. It's made out of hand turned hard wood with a red lacquer finish. He just wanted to practice making a bed before he actually made a bed, which as you can see, was probably not necessary.

I think we're going to sell it on Craig's list, but if you know anyone who's looking for a very fine queen sized bed, drop me a line.

My husband insists on prototyping every single wordworking project he makes, too.

Which is why, after five children, we have an almost-complete crib prototype.

Almost complete.

He assures me it will be finished by the time baby six arrives in April.

I'm not fooled. "It" simply means "prototype that is fantastic and safe and gorgeous, but will be deemed 'unusable' because of some microscopic flaw only he can see."

Much like your beautiful, beautiful bed prototype.

Wow!

Don't sell it on Craiglist until the "real" bed is finished!

I wish I lived close enough to come pick it up. It's pretty darn nice for a prototype.

Beautiful.

Is it red? Between my eye sight and my monitor, I can't tell. But if it's red, it's evenmore beautiful.

It is red!

Oh.My.Word! It is gorgeous. I wish my husband could make me a prototype that beautiful. He can make prototype computer software, but when it comes to anything around the house, it's either me with my drill or we hire a handyman.

Way to go Betty's Hubby! Way to make sure she always wants to come home from women's conferences. ;)

PS - got my book on Friday. Woo-hoo. Haven't had time to delve into it yet though. :(

Seriously, how much are you asking for it?

I'll email you if you're serious...

Wow. What a bed. I'm very impressed.

I sometimes miss our mattress on the floor. We didn't have to worry about a kid or two rolling off and dropping to the floor with a thud in the middle of the night.

I'm bummed I didn't get to chat with you (and a bunch of other folks) this weekend.

Sleep well!

Kate, me too! WIsh we could have hung out more. Your talk was great, we all agreed.

That's beautiful. Our bed is just on one of those metal frames to hold it off the floor. If you're really serious about selling, what do you want for it? I live very close to you, I think, and could pick it up.

Emily, I'm 99% sure that the bed already has a taker. I'll let you know if that changes for some reason.

I LOVE the red bed! Why didn't I think of that? I have red cabinets in my kitchen and red in every other room but a red bed. Wow! Gorgeous!

first you write the "sex" chapter of a book and then you post about your "practice" bed..?
my word, Betty, it's getting right scandalous around here these days.
