Meet My Pet Spider

It's not a small planet. It's an orb weaver egg sack. It's by my front door. On my house. Near a crack in the door jamb.

But the mother is absolutely bewitching.

I sort of like spiders.

I love those. If you blow on them lightly they rock themselves on their web -- maybe I dreamed that.

I like spiders, too. We have been known to spend hours finding small bugs and tossing them into spiderwebs to watch the spiders attack.

Aww, we call them "writing spiders." I was terrified of them when I was a kid--not because of their size, but because of an old wives' tale my brother used to torment me with. Supposedly if you say someone's name around them, they will come in at night, count the person's teeth, and write the number in the web. The next day, all that person's teeth fall out, hehe.

Truly beautiful creatures though.
