Inept Gardener

One ear of corn

One apple on my tree

Where, oh where, could my onions be?

Pumkins out my ears, and cucumber from my nose

Then suddenly...

Suddenly...

Tomatoes!

The beautiful lyrics are only surpassed by the show of pumpkins. ONE ear of corn... so lonely. How does that happen? LOL

I think it might have happened via coondirty, actually. Or else, it was a survivor from last year. I just couldn't bring myself to pull it, or the one sunflower, also a volunteer. But more difficult will be the task of deciding who gets to eat it, and the one apple.

We got a sufficient number of small tomatoes, of a variety selected to withstand the heat. But our apples trees withered and died last year. I don't know what you can grow a bumper crop of here in Texas, besides basil, which withstands just about anything. Maybe we should take to raising longhorns or Angus cattle.

I'd take steak over basil any day.

Mrs D, along the lines of Betty: I'll send you my tomatoes next year for your steak. :-)

So you'll trade me a beefsteak for a beef steak, is what you're saying?
